Benzoin Resinoid is a highly purified extract of Benzoin Gum Sumatra. It is obtained by careful solvent extraction of the raw gum resin.

We offer 3 grades of Benzoin Resinoid:

Grade 1. Pure Benzoin Sumatra Resinoid.
This is alcohol-extracted from the raw gum.
The normal process is solvent extraction using alcohol, then the alcohol is evaporated to leave behind the pure resinoid. For this product, the evaporation is stopped just before the end to leave 5% alcohol in the resinoid which leaves it semi-solid to remain workable. The highest grade of Benzoin Sumatra Resinoid available, this is rarely offered elsewhere in the market.

Grade 2. High-grade non-pourable Benzoin Sumatra Resinoid, semi-liquid.
This is pure resinoid produced as above and then diluted with 30% Dipropylene Glycol (DPG).
It is semi-liquid but non-pourable. 70% resinoid.

Grade 3. Standard grade pourable Benzoin Sumatra Resinoid.
This is pure resinoid produced as above and then diluted 50% with Dipropylene Glycol (DPG) to render it pourable. 50% resinoid, with a thick oil consistency.
This grade is what is most commonly available in the marketplace as Benzoin Resinoid, containing 50% DPG.
Most companies do not offer a higher grade than this. This is also what is commonly sold as 'Benzoin Essential Oil', though in fact it is not a true essential oil but a resinoid.
